CAREER IN THE FAST LANE

By Karl Williams

Saturday/Sunday, May 10-11, 2008.

I know it's May, and most or at least some of you may have made those life changes you spent so much of last year planning for. I must however still ask, as the global credit crunch takes its toll on us all, you may well need to reassess those well laid plans. So are you stuck in a rut and not enjoying your current job? Is life catching up with you and you want to achieve bigger and better things?

I’m told the average worker in Britain spends 1,652 hours per year at work. With summer finally arriving in the UK, what better time to evaluate your life and make a few changes. With a little bit of help from Vauxhall, you could be on your way to becoming a racing driver with a chance to travel to locations across the UK and meet famous faces In motorsport.

The only qualification necessary? You need to be aged 21 or over and have never held a Motor Sports Association racing driver license.

So if you are tired of wasting time in traffic on motorways and would prefer to spend it racing around a circuit in a fully race-prepared Astra VXR enter the 2008 VXR Racing Driver of the Year competition.

Last year, over 10,000 people entered Vauxhall’s competition and John Allison, a 34-year-old mortgage consultant from Beverley, Yorkshire, took home the grand prize of a fully-funded race drive in 2008. John started his new career two weeks ago and has already impressed his team and Vauxhall with his speed and ability on the race track.

For your chance to fulfill that lifelong racing dream, simply visit the VRX driver website below, fill in the online questionnaire by 27 June, 2008. From this, 1,620 successful applicants will be put through their paces in the karting semi-finals, before 15 finalists are selected for the intensive three-day final.

Last year's VXR Racing Driver of the Year 2007 competition not only attracted thousands of applicants,  2,000 of these folks went on to compete in regional karting semi-finals for one of the coveted 12 places in the Grand Final. The finalists headed to a special three-day boot camp, which included tasks at a Territorial Army centre, media training and press conferences, plus driving elements at Bedford Autodrome.

Vauxhall is the most successful manufacturer in the modern era of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), with 115 race wins. Since first entering the BTCC in 1989, Vauxhall and its drivers have won 18 titles.
