Smart Ideas For Beating Moving Day Madness

By Features Desk

Whether you’re moving to the other side of town or across the country, moving can be incredibly stressful. Packing up boxes, organising moving day itself, hiring movers, ensuring the exchange runs smoothly - there’s a lot to panic about. The fact is that regardless of how far you’re moving, upping sticks and moving your family and belongings to somewhere new is always going to be stressful. That being said, just because moving can be a little mad at times, that doesn’t mean it has to be a total nightmare. Believe it or not, you can make moving that little bit easier and less stressful for yourself and your family, here’s how:

Pack in advance

The worst thing that you can do when it comes to moving house is leave the packing until the last minute. To prevent moving day stress, aim to start your packing at least two weeks before you move. Before you begin to pack, take the time to do some decluttering, as there’s no point paying to transport items that you no longer need, is there? When you’re packing, be smart about how you organise things and colour code your boxes so that you know which room each new box needs to go in once it arrives at your new home. Focus on one room at a time, as this will take the pressure off you and make packing things up that little bit less stressful. To make packing easier, take note of the advice at http://www.goodhousekeeping.com/moving-tips/.

Have a moving day plan in place

Before moving day arrives, it’s a good idea to put a plan in place that details how moving day should go. Spend some time working out a plan for moving day, from the time that you and your family will get up to what you will eat for dinner when you arrive in your new home; every last detail should be jotted down. It might seem silly planning out the whole day, but it will honestly ensure that things run more smoothly as you’ll have a clear idea of what needs to be done when.

Get help

Whatever you do, don’t make the mistake of going it alone - get some professional help. Hire a moving van and some professional movers to ensure that transporting your belongings from A to B is as straightforward as possible. If you’re required to travel in one of the moving vans with your belongings or are planning to fly to your new home as it’s quicker, you may want to think about having your cars shipped to your new home. For this, you can use a service like Shiply, which is something you can learn more about by visiting https://www.shiply.com/au/car-transport. The last thing you want is to have to return to your old home just to drive your cars back to your new property, so shipping your vehicle's makes sense.

Leave yourself plenty of time

When it comes to moving out, what you don’t want is to have the new owners moving in on the day that you’re moving out, as that puts you under a lot of pressure. Instead, it’s best to arrange to move out at least three days before the new owners move in, as that way you will have plenty of time to ensure you’ve got everything sorted, such as the cleaning, for instance.

Moving day can be somewhat mad, but if you’re smart about it and do plenty of planning, you can make the process of moving more enjoyable and less stressful.
