Office jobs are fine. You show up, do the same thing you did yesterday, and leave at five o’clock. And, at the end of the month, you get a steady paycheck. Let’s face it – there are worse careers.

The problem is the boredom. Office workers tend to feel the monotony of life a lot more because everything is the same. If you’re one of these people, you might think a change is in order? Congratulations on accepting that fact as that’s the first step. The next step is to make sure you don’t end up in the same nine to five ever again. Luckily, this post can help.

Emergency Management Planner

For many people, nothing is scarier than searching for the next natural disaster. Still, emergency management teams around the globe do it on a daily basis. And, they do it because it’s a very fulfilling job. There is nothing like saving lives, which is what they do every time they go to work. Okay, sometimes it gets a little slow, but that’s not a bad thing when you think about it rationally. Plus, the pay is very high. As a result, these people are among a small minority that earns lots of money while participating in a rewarding career. If that isn’t worth an impending sense of dread, nothing is.

Arachnologist

Anyone that is familiar with the term arachnid knows what this job entails. And, yes, if you’re scared of spiders, this isn’t the job for you. However, if you can bottle your fear, you can make a cool $61,000 a year. The even better news is that is the industry standard. Some specialists get paid even more than that, and they get to save lives. An arachnologist is a person that doctors refer to when you get bitten, so there is a lot of pressure on the job. However, that keeps it fresh and challenging. Apart from the pressure, there is also thousands of animals to study, so it never gets boring. Well, it’s one way to work with animals.

Epidemiologist

Did you have an urge to fly to Sierra Leone when you heard about the Ebola crisis? If you answered yes to that question, this is the perfect job. Epidemiologists are the people that are on the ground when deadly diseases break out. They speak to the ground zero patient, they track the spread, and they figure out ways to fight back. Of course, it’s incredibly dangerous, especially if the illness is contagious. But, it’s also thrilling. After all, they are contributing to the future of the human race. Average salary: $70,000 a year.

Window Cleaner

What? Cleaning windows isn’t a dangerous job. Sure, it isn’t when you’re only a few feet off the ground. When you’re fifty stories up, it’s a different matter. Skyscrapers need their windows cleaning too, and fearless men and women put their lives at risk every day. Why? It’s mainly due to the thrill of abseiling down a building that is nearly 500m high. It also has something to do with the healthy wage. ‘Extreme’ window washers can earn up to $55,000 in a good year.

They might be scary, but they are fulfilling and pay well.
