Why We Need to Improve the Very Air We Breathe
By Features Desk
Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Breathing is very much something we have
become accustomed to. We’ve done it since the moment we were born and have done it non-stop ever since.
The average person will breathe between twelve and twenty times a minute
(that’s between seventeen thousand and thirty thousand breaths a day). But this
doesn’t mean that we should take it for granted. In fact, if anything, we
should focus on it a whole lot more seeing as it’s the very thing keeping us
alive. So, for just a moment, let’s talk about the quality of the air that
sustains us. The quality of the substance that we fill our lungs with day in
and day out. Because, believe it or not, the quality of the air that we breathe
can have a profound impact on our overall quality of life in general. In fact,
it could be as important as the quality of food that we eat or liquids that we
drink, so requires just as much consideration and moderation. Read on to learn
a little about how air quality can affect you and how to get the best out of
the air around you!
Health and
Wellbeing
Various studies
(both past and ongoing) have been conducted into air pollution and how it
affects our bodies and their functioning. As we are all well aware, the fossil
fuels that we use on a regular basis release all sorts of terrible pollutants into the air. While a lot of focus has
(rightly) been placed on how they affect the environment and atmosphere, fewer
people seem to show concern in regards to what they do to us as individuals
when we breathe them in. Tests have shown that they can significantly increase
your chances of developing respiratory diseases (such as asthma) and conditions
such as wheezing and coughing. As you would expect, these conditions affect
more individuals living in cities and highly populated, built-up areas (where
there tend to be more pollutants in the air).
Purifying
The Air
Now, of
course, the best way to keep our planet’s air clean is to reduce the amount of
pollution that we produce as societies. However, in the meantime, you can also
use some of the following methods to purify the air that is immediate to you.
Air Quality
Treatment
One of the
most effective solutions for air pollution is to collaborate with air quality
treatment professionals who specialise in areas such as energy efficiency,
heating and cooling, intelligent energy, wind energy, solar and other renewable
energies, and bioenergy.
Houseplants
Plants are
nature’s very own life-support systems. They reduce the number of air
particulates in their surroundings and photosynthesise carbon dioxide into
oxygen. So try filling your home with houseplants like bamboo plants, peace
lilies, and weeping figs. Not only will they look great, but they’ll purify the
air in your property too!
As you can
see, we need to start focusing a whole lot more attention on the quality of
everything that we put into our body, air included!
