Team Building Outside The Office

By Business Desk

Wednesday, May 9, 2018.

Over the last couple of decades, a lot of businesses have started to change the way that they treat their employees. Taking a much more caring and delicate approach, loads of companies have started to work hard to make sure that people are as happy as possible, ensuring that they can work nice and hard. Of course, as a big part of this, they have to make sure that everyone in the office is getting along with each other. A large part of this can be handled outside of the office, and this post will be exploring some of the options you have to help you to do it.

Meals: Food has been used in the process of building relationships for thousands of years. Since the dawn of human civilisation, in fact, people have been getting to know one another over a meal. In business, this can be used as a powerful tool, especially if it is handled correctly. This should always be done during work hours, as this will make people happier to come along, while also including suggestions from everyone when choosing the location for it. You should always avoid talking about work topics during a social event like this, as it could make it hard for people to get to know each other. Instead, you should let people have fun, enjoying conversation as it naturally flows.

Escape Rooms: If you think that you will struggle to avoid talking about work during this sort of meal, it could be worth looking at some alternative options. An escape room, for example, will involve a lot of thinking, and the only time for talking will be spent solving puzzles with each other. This sort of scenario is designed to test people’s ability to work as a team. Without even realizing it, you will be giving people the chance to try new roles and to figure out what works for them. The results of an activity like this can be very big for a company. Not only will people be happier, but they will also find it much easier to work with each other.

Field Trips: Being outside of work doesn’t mean that people can’t be on the job when they are on a team building exercise. Even people still have to do their regular tasks, they will feel much better about doing it when they are out of the office. Field trips to cafes, parks, and other public places can be a great chance for people to let their hair down. While this could disrupt work a little bit, it will give people an opportunity to talk to one another like never before. It can be amazing how an action like this can boost office morale.

Hopefully, this post will inspire you to start working harder on the time you put into your business team building activities. A lot of companies make this very boring and stale, treating as just another job which has to be done. In reality, though, this is very important, and your company will struggle without it.
