What do Customers Want From Companies?

You might think that if you have an awesome product or service, then your customers are going to naturally flock to you. This is not the case, and for one simple reason: customers want much more than just what you can sell them. OK, we lied, it’s not all that simple - humans are complex creatures, let’s remember. The good news is that we have some ideas about what they do want, which allows us to incorporate them into our business practices. Check out five of them below.

A Dialogue

Your customers aren’t an audience: they’re friends. OK, that might be taking it too far, but what we mean is that they’re just there to receive whatever you want to say to them. They want to give their opinion and be listened to. So make sure you’re factoring in your customers’ voice as part of your business operations. You can do this by asking for feedback, being open to criticism, and all-around ensuring that they feel like their being respected and understood. It’s all about extending overall common courtesy into your business.

Commitment to a Better World

There was a study released a year or so, which showed that customers, especially younger ones, are more likely to give their cash to companies who show they have a commitment to improving the world. If you show that you don’t care about, say, the state of the planet, then you’re going to turn away plenty of potential customers before they’ve even had a chance to see what you’re selling. So take a look at how earth-friendly your company is. Doing things like using recycled materials, donating to environmental charities, and sending your products in resealable plastic bags will all show that you care about more than just making money. More Than Dollars

Money can sometimes get a bad wrap. It’s not all bad, of course, but if a company only cares about how much money they’re making, then potential customers are usually a bit hesitant. So don’t look at your business as something that’ll put some more money into your bank account; think of it as a passion first. Your aim is to create something positive, to sell or promote something because you believe in it. Do those things first, and the money will come. Just focus on the money, and you might find that you’re always pursuing it, without getting any closer.

Reliability and Efficiency

You could have the best products on the planet, but if your customers don’t think that you're reliable, then you’re going to be in trouble. Trust is a massive factor when it comes to purchasing decisions. If a person doesn’t trust your company, they’ll move on to a company that they can trust. Also, it’s worthwhile taking the time to make sure your business operates efficiently. No-one, in this day and age, wants to wait a long time for delivery of a product. Make sure that you’re working hard to not just get orders, but fulfill them!
