How Much Would You Risk For Your Career?

By Careers Desk

Thursday, December 20, 2018.

Are you sitting in your office wondering just how much longer you can stand dealing with your boss, your workload and those co-workers who are driving you crazy?

If you find your 9 to 5 the most dullest, most soul destroying part of you life maybe you need to consider a drastic change of career to get some adrenaline pumping through those veins. Have you got what it takes to take on some of the most challenging jobs on earth? We’ve compiled 5 of the most terrifying, breathtaking careers that might make you appreciate the safety of your cubicle.

Oil Rig Worker

Working 16-hour shifts, these workers are under extreme pressure to make high-level calculations while facing hostile working conditions. The volatile nature of the material they’re working with makes for a highly dangerous working environment, not to mention they’re miles away from anywhere which might sound tempting if your current colleagues are driving you mad.

Miner

From gold, to diamonds to cobalt, the continent of Africa has long been mined for its incredible natural resources and this work continues apace today on a large-scale operation. From the men heading down hundreds of meters to the precious resources below the earth to those who provide the logistics, KPS Power Africa’s power generation solutions for remote sites, for example.

From providing technical support to doing the real mining work, this industry is huge and shows no signs of slowing down.

Lorry Driver

If you thought it was all listening to country music and blasting your air horn think again. The job of driving multi-ton lorries across the country is both physically and mentally challenging.  Wielding a huge vehicle around hairpin bends and staying alert for hours at a time is not something all of us would be able to do. If you’re prone to road rage imagine being in charge of a truck this size and dealing with the anger.

Emergency Medical Technician

These guys put themselves on the line night and day to bring emergency relief. Although immensely exciting, this job has two great challenges to bear in mind even after being responsible for the treatment of another human being.

Being exposed to sights and situations that leave you feeling sad and traumatized and dealing with violent and aggressive patients for a number of reasons, take their toll. While no two days are the same, the pressure is pretty intense.

Firefighter

Following the emergency services theme, have you ever wanted to be in the heart of an emergency situation bravely tackling the flames with nothing but a hose? As romantic as that image is, most days firefighters are called to a huge majority of (thankfully) false alarms and minor incidents. But when the call out is big, it can be really big.

There’s no getting away from it fire is inherently dangerous and while managed expertly you will put yourself in harm’s way every time you attend a fire.

Whether you’re an accountant or a lifestyle blogger, that cubicle isn't looking quite as bad now, right?
