We can all feel a little stressed from time to time, and for those people that think they are too blessed to be stressed, they are clearly concealing something! When we've got a family, even the most level-headed among us feel the pressure, and this is none truer than when we go on a family vacation. But there is no need to wade into the anxieties that come with family vacations here because we've seen them all before. But we need to know exactly what can we do to minimize these stresses. Is it about relaxation techniques? Is it about the choice of destination? Or is it about a combination of factors? Let us make your family experience on the road a pleasant one.

It's All In The Planning!

The best vacations aren't always the ones where you go with the flow. Depending on your own frame of mind, this could cause you more stress than it's worth! Instead, if you want to minimize stress, especially if you have got children that get bored easily, you need to fill the itinerary as much as humanly possible. But where do you go? This is the big question. There are many approaches, but when you're looking for an experience that caters for everyone, it's vital that you find purposes for each family member. What do you want to achieve? Do you want your children to learn something? Do you want them to get off their phones for once in their life? Or do you want to work together as a family unit?

Vacations can be an opportunity to get away from the stresses of everyday life, but when you have children, those stresses can follow you. Your one option would be to shun any aspect of normality completely. So if you are used to the luxuries of modern life, perhaps a camping experience is a good call? But before you head on a camping vacation, you've got to pay lip service to practicalities and planning. It's a more common occurrence now, wildfires that occur in areas of natural beauty, you can read more about this on https://www.walkuplawoffice.com/ca-wildfire-loss/, but, needless to say, whatever your desired outcome, leave no stone unturned when it comes to your preparation.

Occupying The Kids

You've decided what will benefit every family member and you have gone to great lengths to ensure that it's an experience everyone will treasure; now you've just got to get there in one piece! “Occupying the children” can sound like quite a harsh term, that you are placating them somewhat. But when we are giving thought the idea of minimizing stress, we've got to find a few survival techniques to ensure that every member of the family can enjoy some downtime.

Keeping the children occupied is something that you can either do by giving them games or shows to watch on their tablets, or you can all join in something together. But the difficult part of this is if the children don't want you to join in! After all, you're the parent, and if you are using this vacation experience as a way to bond with the family more, this could backfire on you, especially when the kids aren't used to this! Instead, think about gradually infiltrating your children's playing time. You could try singing songs together in the car, playing “I spy”, anything that encourages group activity. Sometimes it's not going to be feasible for you all to play a game together, especially if there's a lot of driving involved, but one simple way to keep the children occupied, is to take advantage of the moments when the other people in the car are asleep. Having a one on one conversation with one of the kids while everybody else is asleep you the opportunity to bond with them which can make the vacation a better experience for the two of you, where you're enjoying these treasured moments.

Avoiding The Various Components Of Stress

Sometimes, no matter how prepared we are, things come up and threaten to derail our enjoyment. Sometimes it's a bad travel experience, with delayed flights, missed buses or trains, and you can feel that vein in your forehead is going to pop. Sometimes it's money. When money is a concern, especially when you're on vacation, this can sour your entire experience. One way to ensure you are prepared financially is to go for the cheaper vacations; there are some handy hints on https://www.skyscanner.net/news/20-money-saving-travel-tips-and-secrets/ to help you save money on your travel. But if we spend the duration of our vacation feeling anxious about the money problems that we could come home to, the best preparation is about reducing your own anxieties.

The bottom line is this: if there are problems that you can't do anything about right now, especially when you're on vacation, can't these problems wait until you get home? Because there's nothing you can do about it right now, why should it cloud your enjoyment? And sometimes it's not as easy as saying “don't think about it”; you've got to find practices to ensure that you are improving your coping strategies when it comes to stress. It's a commonly held belief that we can be wired for stress, and that's “just the way we are”. Instead, it's time to figure out your own stress triggers, and practicing a few simple techniques to relax. There's no point in worrying about something you can't control, so instead, take some deep breaths and learn how to change your mindset so you don't have to stress about things that will be waiting for you when you get home. Instead, live in the here and now and enjoy your vacation.

Learning About Your Family

The great thing about education is that, in many ways, we get rid of the persona we present in our day to day lives. We can live with people our entire lives, and not know that much about them. This is quite a surprise, and when we go on vacation, especially if we're so busy in our working lives so that we don't spend much quality time with the kids or significant others, we can use this quality family time to learn about our family. Because a vacation can be a giant ball of stress we can find this overshadows our enjoyment. The priority of any vacation is about spending time with our family and, in many ways, making amends.

Some families have a great relationship, but others need to work harder at the bond. And, even the most perfect of families need to work hard and cementing their relationship. But this is why, when on vacation, you are all thrown together, and you have no choice but to spend some quality time together. Sure, you can all do different things during the day and then gather for a meal in the evening, but if you spend more time with one child than the other, taking these opportunities to push yourselves out of your usual comfort zone, is something that needs to be done.

Traveling with your family doesn't have to be a stressful thing. In fact, it's about taking your opportunities to find out why you are all stressed in the first place. No family is going to get along with each other all the time, but this doesn't mean you need to be hardwired for stress during vacation time. In fact, if you get it right, you will come back from your vacation rested, relaxed, and with a renewed sense of enthusiasm for your relationships with the family. In essence, traveling is stressful, but this doesn't have to be the case.
