Tuesday, February 19, 2019.

One thing that most people strive for when running a business is being productive, and whilst it may not seem like something that’s difficult to achieve, it really can be a challenge for some, especially when running a business that requires them to be wearing a lot of different hats or when they’re just starting out and are bootstrapping their business, so they’re not yet in a position where they’re able to outsource things like it vendor management or even bring on a VA for a few hours a week.

Being productive is also not something that’s overly difficult to achieve when you know where to look and what kinds of things to use that can really help you, so in this post, we’re going to share with you some of the apps that make life as a business owner more productive so that you can find yourself being able to focus on the things that actually move your business forward and allow you to enjoy the work-life balance that you’re supposed to have as a business owner and not end up suffering from things like burnout.

WordPress:

If a website is something you use in your business at all, then WordPress is the platform you should be using for that. Whilst we’re certainly not going to go into all the reasons that you should be using WordPress instead of any of the other competitors on the market, we will tell you that it’s a the best one their is for building a custom website, and they also come with their own mobile app for both Android and iOS that works on tablets as well as phones, so it allows you to be able to update your site and keep up to date with things like blog posts and analytics on the go, meaning that you can perform quick checks and don’t have to spend hours in front of a computer to get things done. The WordPress app also allows you to actually create and publish your blog posts, so it’s a really handy tool to have.

Google Drive:

Google Drive is such an excellent all round tool for keeping everything related to your business in one place and managing it all through their desktop and mobile app, so it’s great for collaborating with your team and editing things on the go. It means you can start working on a document from home at your computer and then if you have to edit it later, you can pick right up where you left off on your phone without losing any of your work. Google Drive comes with a full suite of tools that allows you to create spreadsheets, documents, PDFs, presentations, and even questionnaires, so you can pretty much run your entire your business with it and use it as your main filing system. One of the other great things about Google Drive is that you can sync it up with so many other tools and apps so everything integrates effortlessly.

Trello:

Trello is an amazing and free task management and project management tool that comes in a desktop version and offers a super robust mobile app for both Android and iOS users. Trello basically works by giving you a visual overview of everything you have going on through what they call boards. These boards then consist of lists and are then broken down into cards.

With Trello you can plan everything from your weekly schedule, your travel plans, your home renovation project, your meals, basically everything and anything you can imagine. All boards can be fully customized through background images and colours, and then the tasks can then be colour coded so it’s a truly great tool for those who are visual thinkers. It’s something that really helps you to get a clear overview of everything you have going on and then keeping your different areas of your life and business organized so that you know what you have to be focusing on at each time.

Zapier:

For those who are looking to be productive, then Zapier is one of the best inventions out there. It’s basically a master app that makes all other apps work together and creates triggers known as zaps so that they will perform actions. So, for example, if you have an email list where you’re sending out an offer to your customer and would like to add these people to another list if they purchase or not, then you can link Zapier to your email list and your payment processor to make this automatically happen. Zapier is something that every business owner needs in their life.

Notes:

This is a simply app that’s built into iPhones, and if you’re an Android user, you’ll have the alternative to that, but it’s a great thing to use if you’re someone who needs to write things down to remember them, so if you’re on the go a lot and you come up with a good idea, then you can just add a quick note to your phone that reminds you what the idea was in case you forget. The great thing is, you can then send this note to yourself via email or message so that you are reminded of it and can implement the idea.

Buffer:

Social media is a big part of all businesses these days, but it’s definitely something that can be very time consuming and isn’t always the most productive use of time, so using something like Buffer that allows you to upload all your pre-created content and then schedule it out, not only means you spend less time each day on social media, but that you’re able to stay consistent with your content, which is also a big factor in making social media work for you.

Pomodoro Timer:

The Pomodoro Technique is a well-known time management and productivity technique that’s proven to really improve the way people work. This is especially great if you have trouble staying focused on one thing and allow yourself to be distracted easily. You can simply open the app, set your timer for 25 minutes, focus on the task at hand and then take a 5 minute break. You’ll be amazed at just how much you can get done in this 25 minute block of time.
