Add a Value Proposition

Your value proposition is otherwise known as your mission statement. This essentially tells your visitor why you do what you do, and what you offer. You need to make sure that your value proposition is on your home page. It also helps to add it to your blog and your About Us page too. When creating your value proposition, you need to let your visitors know what to expect when they hire you, and what you stand for. This will help to make your site much clearer and it will also help those who don’t have a good understanding of what you do, to relate to your company.

Focus on your Navigation

The navigation on your site will essentially serve two purposes. It helps your user to find what they are looking for and it will also help you to rank in the SERPS. If you aren’t sure what to do here, then remember that your visitors should always come first, with the search engines coming second. Use descriptive navigation instead of using generic headers such as “what we do”. Try and also use words that your visitors would use, and what you think they would be searching for. This will help them to connect with your site and it also helps you to stand out from the thousands of other sites that are out there. A lot of companies try and use internal lingo or jargon when creating their content, but ideally, you should avoid this. Your customers probably won’t know what you mean, and you won’t be doing yourself any favours.

Have a Call to Action

Your CTA is a huge part of your site. You can’t expect your customers to know what to do when they land on your site, instead, you need to tell them, Buttons are for actions at the end of the day, so make sure that you use text such as “open an account” “download” or even “get a quote”. It also helps to use verbs as much as possible and also ensure that you are clear. Using first person is crucial here as well because if you don’t then your customers may not be 100% clear on what you want them to do.

Look at the Colours you’re Using

It’s so important that you find a contrasting colour or even an accent colour for your CTA buttons. For example, if you know that your site is blue in colour then find a yellow or even a warm orange to try and bring out the palette while drawing attention to the button. Little things like this can go a long way and you would be surprised at how much it can make a difference to your site in general.

Ten Foot Test

If you want to really make sure that your site is the best that it can be then get up your home page. When you have done this, you then need to stand up from your desk and take ten or so steps back. Can you still tell what your company offers? Can someone else? If not, then you need to try and tighten up the message that you have.

Carousels

A lot of people aren’t sure if they should have a carousel on their site or not. If you aren’t sure, then you need to take a look at the data that’s on your site. You need to also look at the way that it’s used so that you can get the right context, as this will ultimately help you to make the best decision. You should know that with every slide you have, your user interaction will decrease and hardly anyone clicks on the fourth or fifth slide. If you want to stop this from becoming a problem, then make sure that you keep it to three at the most.

Videos

If you do not have any type of video on your site, then you are already making a big mistake. One way for you to get around this would be for you to have an explainer video. These are very easy to create, and they can have a huge impact on your site as well. If you have never created an explainer video before then you need to try and focus on telling your customers what your company does in the simplest of terms.  It’s also worth investing in some captioning services too, in case some of your customers are hard of hearing or even if they want to watch the video while their device is muted. The best thing about captioning services is that they can add text to your video in another language too, which is especially beneficial.

Testimonials

Nobody is going to go onto your testimonial page because your customers won’t feel as though it’s going to offer them much value. If you look at your site statistics, then you will see that this is the case. That being said, your testimonial pages really are crucial to the overall success of your site. If you want to get around this, then you need to add some testimonials to your home page. This can really give you the best of both worlds and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to really capitalise on this.

People want to know, trust and like you before they purchase from you. It’s so important that you let your visitors know who is working behind the scenes and also what your culture is about as well.  Having a team page also makes your business seem much more personable as well, and this can really work in your favour.

Mobile-Friendly

Having a site that is mobile-friendly really is a must-have, Google have updated their mobile search algorithm and it’s now been found that mobile-friendly pages rank much higher when compared to pages which aren’t. There’s a good reason why Google decided to do this, and it’s because a site has a lot of links and if you are coming from a mobile, they can be very difficult to navigate. One way for you to get around this would be for you to either create a site that is responsive, or for you to create a mobile site that can be accessed in place of your normal site. Either way, if you aren’t doing this then this could be the one thing that is holding you back.
