Innovations That May Change the Food We Eat

Technology is ever changing, and this is true for food just as it is in any other industry. We’re constantly adapting what and how we eat, so how will technology change this in the near future?

Here are some innovations that may change the food we eat. Some have already started, and others are set to begin in the near future. 

3D Printing 

Now, this may sound like it is straight out of a sci-fi movie, but it’s not so far from being a reality. 

3D printing has been around for a while, and has made a massive difference in manufacturing, and it will use a similar process to create food. Each food item will be built layer by minute layer, allowing the creator to customize its texture, shape, and taste. 

This technology could be used to create healthier foods, and also to have a positive impact on food waste. 

Cooking With Cannabis 

With cannabis use having been legalized in some American states, chefs have been looking at how they can use it in cooking.  

You commonly see edibles in dispensaries now, but we’re talking about proper meals that are accentuated by cannabis. The key to this is being able to extract the cannabinoids from the plant, so that they can be used within the cooking process. 

Using equipment such as a cheap rosin press, experienced chefs can use cannabis to create all kinds of interesting foods. 

Insect Protein

We’ve been hearing about this one for some time now;  that insect protein is going to play a big part in the future of how we feed the world. It certainly doesn’t sound like the most appealing food in the Western world, but there are other cultures in which it is already more commonplace. 

As the world’s population grows though, how we feed ourselves is going to become a big question, and we might just find that we need to start embracing insects as an important source of protein. 

There are lots of healthy insects out there, so don’t be surprised if we see this becoming a bigger part of our future. 

Gut-Friendly Food 

When it comes to what we’re looking for in our food, gut-friendly tends not to be too high on the list. However, this is starting to change as people begin to consider the different ways in which their diets affect their health. 

The gut plays an important part in keeping people healthy, and there are plenty of ways that you can keep it healthy. Probiotics and prebiotics are a part of this and can be found in many commonly eaten foods. 

High-Pressure Processing

Humans have been preserving food for many centuries. We need food to last without going off, and we’ve gradually improved our ability to do this over the years. 

The latest development is high-pressure processing, which could extend shelf life by up to ten times. However, it’s not just about making food last longer, it also needs to keep its taste, and quality. 

With high-pressure processing, we will be able to keep food for longer without compromising on quality.
