Congratulations on completing all your exams and finishing your training. You have used Practice Match for open doctor jobs and are ready to enter into the workforce as a new doctor. As with any new job, there will be times that bring you great excitement. There will also be challenging days, but it is nothing you cannot handle. There are things you can do now to circumvent those challenges. Check out our tips for new doctors.

Manage Your Workload

Get organized and stay organized. You do not want your workload to overwhelm you and the best way to prevent this from happening is to stay organized. You will always know what is on your plate. Staying organized can help you keep your meetings, events and other things that require your time. You will not miss a deadline simply because you forgot. If you find this particular aspect hard to get control over, ask for help. No one will look at you like you are incompetent and immature. They will feel respected and valued because you have the self-awareness to know when to ask for help.

Remember To Self-Care

In all your caring for others, make sure that you are also caring for yourself. Wear shoes that are comfortable and that feels good. You are going to be on your feet all day, no exaggeration. You want to make sure that your shoes are ergonomic for your daily tasks. You should also get your own doctor. Avoid treating yourself. It is great to have someone who is impartial that will be able to look at your symptoms and discern what the issue is. Last but not least, remember to stand up for yourself otherwise you fall victim to people walking all over you. There is a way to do it diplomatically, but do not be afraid to stand up for yourself.

Be A Great Communicator

Being a doctor takes more than treating illnesses and injuries. You are also interfacing with your patients. Knowing how to effectively communicate is crucial. Though you may be able to take away their physical pain, you cannot take away their emotional pain. The sooner you realize this, the easier communicating will be. Allow your patients to express their feelings when you give them the good or bad news. You should also be an active listener. Make sure that you are understanding them clearly by repeating back to them what they just said.

Remember This Is A Team Effort

You may be the doctor, but you have a team of people that make caring for people streamlined. Everyone needs everyone. Make sure that you clearly label prescriptions with the correct information. Make sure that it is easy to read. This helps streamline the process of getting prescriptions out for patients. Remember to always talk to your patient. Really listen to your patients and make sure you clearly understand the issues they are having. Maintaining a personal connection with your patients helps to build trust.
