Hospitality is a big industry, whether you know it yet or not. When you go out with your friends, book a holiday, meander around a museum or take in a show, you’re contributing to the hospitality industry. It makes sense, then, that as a creative entrepreneur you’d want to get involved in an industry as forward as hospitality is.
If you are the kind of person who has an interest in experience and a love of connecting experiences with people, then hospitality could be the best idea for your new start-up. It’s not without its pitfalls, don’t get me wrong. An increasing number of restaurants are suffering insolvency, and this happens for a variety of reasons.
Location, for one, is a good reason that some restaurants fail: oversaturation is the cause here. Pricing is another; the world is in a slump with regard to the economy, so people are spending their money on their weekly food shop and not eating out. Don’t be put off, though, hospitality is a huge industry and there is always a place for entertainment. So, with that in mind, here are five hospitality business ideas that you could choose from to roll with in your future.
Tour Guide. If you are lucky enough to live in a city or a heavily popular area, then a business with tour buses and guides could be perfect. It’s a competitive area, especially in capital cities, but you could find a niche in the city that others haven’t exposed just yet. Does your city have a particularly colourful history? Offering city tours based on a historical education can make a huge profit for you!
Hotel/B&B. Tourists and travellers will always need somewhere to sleep at a good price. You could choose to go either high end or budget with your business, as there’s always going to be a call for either. All you need is a building with a good history, be able to turn your hand at a proper breakfast and have a good knowledge of the local area.
Coffee Shop. Wherever you live, there is always going to be a cry for more places to sit and enjoy a decent cup of coffee! If you can offer tasty pastries and homemade sandwiches, you’ll be onto a winner. This can be as big or small as you like, but there’s something about a cosy café, isn’t there?
Taxi. Okay, so Uber have taken a big chunk of this one, but that
doesn’t mean that you can’t offer fierce competition, right? Airport rides will always be in a huge demand and if you live close to a local airport, you can get your car working for you.
Beach Shop. Of course, this is going to be specific to location, but a stall or shop near to a beach that sells everything from swimming aides to goggles and towels will be hugely popular. This will be a seasonal business though, so be sure to work out your profit and loss year-round.
Choosing ahospitality business to begin isn’t going to be easy – there’s so much choice! That doesn’t mean you won’t make it a huge success.
