Imagine coming into work and seeing one of the ceiling lights is hanging down. Just latching on by a thread of wire, the light dangles above your head as you walk under it to get to your office and or desk. It doesn’t exactly inspire confidence, does it? So why would you allow your own business to look like it’s some kind of backwater scammer’s headquarters? No one wants to have a heap of papers sat on their desk that all have HR stamped at the top of the header. So don’t give your employees the chance to complain about the standards of the employee safety and belay and negative press in the process. Here are the telltale signs of a safe work environment.

Fire prevention
All modern offices should have a state of the art fire alert and prevention system. Fire alarms need to be in every single room and hallway. Don’t just check the offices and stairwells, check that the toilets in your rented or owned commercial property have fire alarms installed too. To couple the alarm alert system, check that your business has sprinklers fitted in the ceiling too. Have a closer look at the joint fittings of the pipes that hang down, and make sure there is no rust to be seen at any point.

Escaping out
When disaster strikes, there’s no time to dawdle. Getting out to safety is the number one concern for everyone trapped in any kind of building. Thus you need to make sure you have some kind of general purpose steel doors fitted that will act as fire exit doors. If you haven’t got such doors, install one which directly leads outward from the floor and or room. This could be toward a fire escape in the form of stairs and ladders fitted on the exterior of the property. On the other hand, it could just be to an emergency escape staircase at each corner of each floor. The door must be all stainless steel and hence strong. This is so they cannot be tampered with or jammed due to physical damage.
Wire management
Not just is exposed wiring a trip hazard; it’s also potentially life-threatening. Wiring that is loose and laying openly on the floor can cause someone to trip and either sprain their joints or even knock themselves unconscious. Even more worrying is the fact that exposed wires will be introduced to physical wear and tear via being stepped on; especially those wearing sharp heels. This can cause electrocution and cause an employee to lose their life. It goes without saying that in an office space, wiring must be professionally managed. Do not resort to duct tape. Make sure that your work environment hides the wires underneath the flooring, or up through support columns and aloft throughout the ceiling.
The money and roles will attract people to come work for your business no doubt. How long you can keep them in an unsafe professional place of work is anyone’s guess. Have a look around your office right now and see if any of these areas are lacking.
