Company parties and team building events are a great way to improve the relationship between both you and your employees. Whilst you may spend a lot of time together in a work environment, taking things outside the office and focussing on building relationships can dramatically improve motivation within the office. With that in mind, here are 6 ways to organise a successful company event:
– Make Sure You Choose A Date Everyone Can Attend
One of the first things you need to do is choose a date for your event. Whilst the may seem easy, to begin with, you need to find a date that the majority of your team members can attend. The best way to gage this is to send a tentative email around everyone in your team, asking which dates they currently have available. Once you have a majority vote, you can begin to send out invites.
– Choose A Great Venue That Is Easy To Get To
Although it may be tempting to choose a venue based on its facilities or the costs, it’s often better to choose one based on its location. Having been at work all week, your staff members won’t want to travel a long distance in order to attend a work function, especially if it’s on a Friday night. Try to stick within a 15-minute radius if you’re unsure.
– Pick A Fun, Team Building Activity
Although the main part of your event will the food and drink, planning a fun team building activity beforehand is a great way to ensure ever one relaxes and starts to mingle. Whether you choose an escape room, bowling or paintballing – your team will love the break from work.
– Arrange Transport So Everyone Can Attend
If you’re worried that certain members of your staff won’t be able to make it, or you’re going to be serving alcohol at your event, consider hiring transport so everyone can attend. Although not everyone will want to drink, hiring either a car, taxi or shuttle to take everyone to and from the event will show your team that they’re appreciated and well looked after. – Provide Food And Drink
A great way to get everyone talking and having a good time is to provide food and drink. Whether it’s a buffet where people can help themselves or a sit-down meal, everyone will appreciate the effort you’ve gone through for them.
When it comes to drinking you can choose to a limit, or offer an open bar.
– Make Sure Everyone Networks With Each Other
Finally, you need to ensure everyone is having a good time and getting to know each other. Often workplaces will have a number of different cliques and it’s easy for people to feel left out at a company event. To help, why not set a table plan or mix people into teams they’ve never been in before. It’s risky, but it works!
